Can I really manifest my dream life into reality?
This is a question my clients have often asked me.
All you have to do is close your eyes, listen to your plinky-tinkly whale music, and think about your dream life and then – ta-da! – the whole universe magically rearranges itself just for you. Sounds simple, right? Especially if you then add a sprinkle of mystical woo-woo, some deep soul searching and you can manifest your dream life like a rabbit out of the magician’s hat. I’m all for mystical moments but for me, like many others, we like something a bit more concrete than just cosmic wishful thinking.
However, even knowing that the higher universal powers won’t simply bend to your will, it doesn’t stop you from imagining how your dream life would look.
Maybe you want more money. You want to be more patient. Less stressed. You want more free time.
You want the all new VW ID Buzz.
In metallic bay leaf green.
With all the comfort and infotainment packages you desire.
(I have kids – I need a practical mumtruck. I can dream about a sleek & sexy little convertible for when they’ve all moved out, too, right?)
And there are people out there who have what they want.
So just how do you manifest your dreams into reality?
- Do you write it down?
- Do you shuffle some oracle cards & leave it up to fate to decide when you can achieve your dreams?
- Do you say the words out loud, send it out into the universe & wait for it to come back to you?
Answer: you can give it a good try.
You can do whatever the fuck you want to do as long as it’s in line with your values and beliefs AND you DO SOMETHING. Sitting in the lotus position waiting for the universe to deliver is likely to get you jack shit.
Other than a numb arse and ceased up knees.
But neither is this categorically saying: no, you cannot manifest your dream life.
There is a way to get the life you’ve always dreamed of.
It just takes a bit of work & a powerful tool that bridges the gap between the two: the Reticular Activating System (RAS).
Manifestation: The Art of Turning Dreams into Reality
Manifestation is not merely wishful thinking; it requires action.
It’s the process of bringing your desired scenarios into your reality through intention and action. It involves being true to yourself, upfront, and honest in your pursuits.
When this process is looked at through the lens of the reticular activating system, it suddenly gains a scientific backbone. The RAS, located in our brainstem, acts as a gatekeeper of information, filtering the vast array of stimuli we encounter daily and highlighting what is relevant to us. It directs our attention to the new core beliefs.
Essentially, you suddenly become more aware of what you desire.
Understanding the Reticular Activating System
Let’s go back to the green ID Buzz. You chose it because it was a car that seemed so unique to you. You wanted that colour because no one was cool enough to own such a machine other than you. You’d never seen such a car before.
You make a plan to be able to work your way to making money to be able to afford such a car.
Once you set this intention, your RAS tunes into the ‘green ID Buzz’ plan.
Suddenly, you’ll start seeing green VW’s everywhere.
This is not a result of a sudden surge in these cars being released into the world but rather your brain’s selective attention.
Your Brain’s Goal-Seeking Mechanism
Rather than trying to pull your dreams out of thin air, manifestation means that you begin to align your internal focus towards a desired goal. It’s this activity that sets the ball in motion to make outcomes more attainable.
You need to clarify what it is you want.
And here is the crucial element of all of this: to take action.
Manifestation isn’t a passive activity. You can dream of your ideal life – this is what sets the stage for the life you want. Bringing those dreams into reality requires action.
Sitting in the ‘ohm’ position and awaiting for your dreams to drop into your lap is going to leave you disappointed.
Just like if you were to plant seeds in your garden, they usually require a bit of water, sunlight, decent soil and some tending to bloom into plants.
Practical Steps Towards Manifesting Your Dream Life
You’ve got an ideal life in your mind. You are looking for ways on how to be less stressed in your life. How to be more patient with your loved ones. You want to be able to spend more time with your family.
You’re desperate to be able to afford your own place to move away from your family…
Whatever the dream is, there are steps to take to wake your RAS up for your dream life:
- Set Clear Goals: Clearly define what you want to achieve. This step will help fire up your RAS so that it starts to identify opportunities related to your goals.
- Commit to Action: Beyond setting intentions, take concrete steps towards your goals. Your actions signal to your RAS—and the universe—that you’re serious about your desires.
- Adopt a Growth Mindset: Believe in your ability to learn, grow, and achieve your dreams. This mindset will keep you resilient in the face of challenges.
You don’t have to do this on your own.
If the above strategies sound too overwhelming, this is something that I help my clients with. Through conversations, we can identify the key points that you need to action to achieve your dream life.
I work with my clients to develop strategies that align with their goals and beliefs, meaning that their actions become part of their daily lives.
